Muslims celebrate Prophet Muhammad's birthday (Eid Milad-un-Nabi) in Kairouan, Tunisia. Here can be found the oldest mosque in North Africa which attracts a large number of Muslim pilgrims from all around the world. The city was founded around 670, in the time of the Umayyad Caliphate. After Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem, Kairouan is the 4th most holy city for Muslims. It has been said that seven pilgrimages to the the Great Mosque of Kairouan is the equivalent of one pilgrimage to Mecca (one of the five pillars of Islam is the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca).
